It's finally starting to feel like the Christmas season. My son just came home from college last night, we got the little tree up, and I'm starting to bring gifts from the office home to enjoy. Life is good! I enjoy the cooler weather because I finally get to wear sweaters and blazers and not look out of place. LOL.
The quilt for my mom for Christmas should be done in the next couple of days. The long-arm quilting lady brought it back last Monday, and I have been busily getting the binding on ever since. Lots of handwork that requires very small careful stitches. But it is all well worth the effort. She will be so surprised and thrilled!
My father is getting a new board game that I think he will love. It is a railroad game, but is enough different than his other railroad game that he will enjoy it. I'm fully expecting that we will all sit down and play for a couple hours on Christmas afternoon. A good bonding time for grandparents and their grandchildren!
Ho, ho, ho and Merry Christmas to everyone!
My weaknesses are chocolate, coffee, old movies, and my new-found love of quilting. They can be enjoyed simultaneously!

Long time no blog...
Had a very eventful past 2 months! Transferring my son to a different college, hubby in the hospital for a bad gall bladder attack, then driving my son to his new college with all his dorm stuff, hubby's mother unexpectedly dying and we then had to travel to attend the funeral! What a lot of stress and grief to be dealing with! Sad to say, but my quilting was on hold for all of that time.
This week I have finally been able to start it back up and the quilt is really taking shape. Although it's perfectly square. I have to decide if I want it to remain square or if I need to fiddle with it to make it a more normal rectangle shape.

Weekend review
Was able to do all of the cutting of fabric for my new quilt that I'm working on. The class is tomorrow night, and had to be all cut before the start of class. It's a surprise for my mother for Christmas - have to start now so that it can be finished and sent to the long-arm quilter and back in time.
Met up with some family and long-time friends yesterday for breakfast (in honor of one birthday). It's always fun to spend time with my friends and college roommates. We share some great old memories that still can make us laugh!

Newest red-white-and-blue project
This year in planning the get-together with friends for 4th of July, I decided to make a table runner. Except that the more I worked with it, the more I liked it and it got bigger and bigger! It turned out to be a tablecloth (aka quilt top). Now it will undergo a few minor tweaks and be sent to the long arm quilter for finishing.

Patriotic project
In honor of the upcoming 4th of July holiday weekend, I'm sharing a patriotic project done last year. A friend had showed me a technique out of a craft magazine and I decided to try it. I loved the frayed edge look and knew that a flag design with the straight lines design would be an easy start. Here are the beginning fabrics and the finished product. I used Civil War repro fabrics to give it that antique-y look.

This is the first one.
Here we go! All aboard who want to hear my musings, semi-daily. Chocolate and quilt related items, mostly.
